Autumn spectacular in the forests of the Médoc
Now is the autumn season so eagerly awaited by nature lovers. Just before nightfall and during the few hours after, many will be drawn
to the forests of the Médoc. This time of year, there is a great ritual to be witnessed for lovers of nature, a few photographers and
passionate hunters. They all come to observe, listen to, and enjoy this strange, visual but essentially acoustic spectacle...

A Morning’s hunt
We set off on a misty morning looking for fresh tracks of the hare. The dogs were excited from the start but then we lost the hare tracks.
During this time the look-out team saw a deer run across in the distance. We went off to another site as the dogs had lost the scent and
found nothing. We let the dogs off the leash a bit further on and a few seconds later an enormous wild boar crossed in front of our

During an outing of our association, Connaissance du Médoc, to the Marais du Conseiller at Le Verdon, we learned a lot about the fauna of the

with regard to the Medoc...

Rescued from the sea...
It was Pentecost, beautiful summer weather and reasonably normal Atlantic surf, and we had walked from Euronat to Le Gurp. The beach was not yet
supervised by the lifeguards. At around the half-way point, we met several young people playing ball on the beach. As we walked along, we heard
them still happily running in and out of the water to cool down. We had only taken a few more steps when we heard a woman's voice behind us:
"Come back, come back at once!" ...
In his garden Dieter filmed two snakes, it seemed, in combat. They had been sheltering in a well. Two couleuvres, either fighting over a female, or
maybe this was a male - female dance of courtship. According to Wikipedia, in Europe their mating takes place between April and June. Combat between
males is frequent and violent, so as to have monopoly over a mature female...
Hunting in the Médoc
Some time ago and it seems a long time now, I used to work in the vineyard of a chateau. One day the boss welcomed us with the news that
we would all go hunting and I could join them. Until then I had never had any connection with hunting and shooting, and thus I could only
